Color Rush (2020)
Color Rush (2020)
Quick Take: Color Rush (2020). (BL) Starring Hong Yoo Jun and Hur Hyun Jun. 8.0/10. 8 episodes of 15 min. each.
Synopsis: Color Rush starts from an interesting premise: A small minority of people are “monos,” who can’t see colors; they see everything in shades of grey. Monos are looked down on and bullied. For each mono, however, there is a “probe.” When the mono is with his/her probe, they can see in color. A mono can become so dependent on their probe that they resort to violence if the probe tries to leave them.
The story of Color Rush begins when Choi Yeon-woo, a mono, transfers to a new high school and meets his probe, Go Yoo-han, an idol trainee unhappy with his parents’ career choice for him. Yeon-woo tries to push Yoo-han away for fear he’ll harm him. In the end they become a couple.
Review: Color Rush is a typical Boys Love K-drama. BL dramas tend to be sweet and romantic, with no sex beyond a kiss or two. They are usually web dramas that go straight to streaming.
Color Rush is based on a book by the same name. Perhaps the book answers some of the questions that the short drama leaves unexplained. For example, is a probe like a soulmate, each person has only one in the world? Does the probe have to be a love interest? Alas, I’m not curious enough to watch Season 2 to find out. Or read the book.
