The Door into Summer (2021)

Quick Take: The Door into Summer (2021) Japanese film.  Starring  Kento Yamazaki, Kaya Kiyohara, and Naohito Fujiki.  118 minutes.

Review:   The Door into Summer is actually a pretty good adaptation of Robert Heinlein’s 1956 novel. He said that the title came from his cat, who in winter would demand to be let out at various doors — apparently convinced that one of them would open onto summer instead of snow.

The story is a clever, convoluted tale of time travel backward and “cold sleep” forward.   Although the film was well done,  IMO it would have been better as a series.   Two hours is just too short; it felt like a Cliffs-Note version of the story. That said, the plot stayed true to the original and the movie delivers an entertaining diversion.

Next, go read the book.
